Rules for Cats #5: Make yourself comfortable at all times. Remember that nothing, NOTHING, NOTHING, is more important than your own comfort.

If you want to take a nap on the overhead closet shelf, it is permissible to climb suits, blouses, and other delicate hanging items to get there.
A loaf of fresh bread or a package of rolls left on the counter can make an exceptionally comfortable chaise.
A word to expectant mothers: scout out the most comfortable birthing location in the house. Lingerie drawers are a traditional favorite, but any site that holds expensive and delicate clothing will do.

When someone is cooking, place yourself between the cook and his work. Observing from a distance greater than six inches is not condoned.
The very best place to sit is wherever someone is already sitting.
Remember that it is extremely important for you to jump between the sheets as the bed is being made.
A good general rule is to remain underfoot at all times.

Rules for Cats #3: Learn to deal effectively with children, dogs and other inferiors.

If you have brawled with other house felines, deny your role in the unpleasantness. Hold firm to your story, even if tufts of the other fellow's fur are visible between your toes.
Children are generally to be avoided, except in picnic or barbecue situations, where they seldom keep close watch on their plates.
There are several steps to handling dogs:

When a strange dog enters your home, climb to a safe height and look both terrified and hurt.
Keep a straight face as the dog is scolded for frightening you.
Allow yourself to be coaxed down with an editable treat.
When no one is looking, swipe the dog across the nose.
Repeat steps 1-4 as often as necessary, until the dog is permanently removed.

If, during the day, you have had a disagreement with another cat, wait until later to settle it. After midnight is mandatory, preferably between two and four a.m.

Should you make a faux pas, always act as if your action was deliberate and intentional.
Do not, under any circumstances, reveal your true intelligence or your ability to fend for yourself. You will blow the gig for all of us.
Learn to look bored instead of merely lazy. An expression of boredom will cause your person to feel guilty, and this will work to your advantage.

Our mom mended Zucchini's favorite toy -- the kick-a-roo. He had ripped multiple holes in it from his rough-housing, so she washed and mended it for him. Now it's as good as new!

Snow!

We got to check out the snow on the deck this week. It was cold!! I was braver than Zucchini and tromped through the snow drifts, but then I came in shivering. My mom was quick to warm me back up though! ^_^

Zucchini got to go out first... he didn't really know what to think of the snow. I think it was his first exposure.

New Home-made Cat Toy

My mom made me a new cat toy. It's a plastic bottle with a couple holes cut in it, then filled with cat treats and catnip. The more I bat it around the more likely a treat will fall out for me to eat! I love it.

Zucchini woke up from his nap and saw that I had a cool new toy. He wanted in on the action and stole my new toy from me...

Balance of Power Shifts Again

In my mom's feeble attempts to balance the power between Zucchini and I, she eventually brought out the kennel again to use for Zucchini giving me free range of the apartment without supervision! I was a bit skeptical of this at first, but it's working out okay. He and I take turns being in charge of the home now. This has helped to cut down on flying fur. Which makes me very happy.

The Perfect Hidey Hole Discovered

My mom recently found out my favorite hiding place in the whole apartment... inside her box-spring mattress. It took some work, but I had managed to rip a couple holes in the bottom of it just big enough for me to crawl into. Then I could sleep inside it. It was wonderful! But mom discovered it and riped the bottom of the mattress off so I couldn't sleep inside it anymore.

Sick Again

I got a urinary tract infection. I've been really good at "holding it" until my mom can escort me to the litter box because without an escort Zucchini might chase me away. He's been picking on me a lot and it's my house! But I'm a lover, not a fighter so it's hard to not run in this type of situation. Guess I "held it" too long too much because now I have an infection. My mom got me medicine and has quarantined me to the bathroom with my own private litter box to use. Been in here the last couple days and nights. Hopefully I'll be all better soon and come back to the rest of the world again.

Zucchini is staying in his "safe room"... previously known as the bathroom.

The vet pointed out that the bump he has on his right ear is actually a BB stuck in his ear. He has a scar on his ear from where it grazed it before getting stuck. So horrible to think someone actually shot at him. The vet said that if they took an x-ray of him she'd probably find other BBs stuck in him.

Cat Vs. Cat: Keeping Peace When You Have More Than One Cat

Cone Head

I was taken to the vet today with Zucchini. He got his initial check-up, vaccinations, microchip, tested for Feline Leukemia (came back negative, by the way!), and had his claws trimmed. Zucchini wasn't very happy about getting blood drawn for the Leukemia test, which got me upset, which in turn made him more upset. The vet decided it best to use a gas anesthetic to calm him down and knock him out so they could do the what they needed to. I was happy when they took him out of the room, but I was still very unhappy... Too make it worse, the vet then took the time to look at my hurt paw. I didn't really like her poking at it and spreading my toes apart. Didn't feel good. THEN she tried to soak my paw in an epsom salt bath... totally not okay.

Anyway, the end result was that Zucchini was mellow and all taken care of. And I got sent home with antibotics for my paw which has a mostly healed cut on the bottom, and a topical ointment for the cut itself. Worst part of it all is that the vet gave my mom a cone collar to have me wear while I have the ointment on so I can't lick it off (which I want to cause it doesn't make my toes feel good when she puts it on).

Can't wait for my paw to be all healed so I don't have to wear this horrible cone anymore.

Went to the vet the other day to get my staples out. This trip was better than the last one, at least I got to come home the same day!

My people thought that I got a bad burn on my shoulder. With no idea of how I could have gotten burned, the vet did more research the day after we saw her and determined it really was just from the antiboitic they gave me for my surgery. Apparently, I am one of the lucky rare kitties who have a horrible reaction to the antiobotic at the injection site.

Got my staples out. Only hurt a little bit...

The FOAM Incident...

Foam isn't good for a kitty's digestive system... But Pinky sure enjoys to shread and eat foam whenever possible. She found a foam kitchen mat to be quite tasty. Unfortunately, part of the foam got stuck in her instestinal track so she had to go in for some emergency surgery to get it out. Went into the vet Thursday morning and comes home tomorrow (Saturday morning).
